Meet Janet H. Prystowsky, MD, PhD
Janet H. Prystowsky, MD, PhD's career-long interest in Vitamin A metabolism began while working in the laboratory at Pennsylvania State University, where she graduated with honors with a major in biological sciences (human nutrition) in 1974. She continued to pursue her interest in Vitamin A and nutrition when she went on to Columbia University, where over the next 5 years she received an MS, MPHIL and PhD in human nutrition, with research on Vitamin A biochemistry for her PhD thesis published in 1979. She went on to medical school at the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago, where she graduated with honors in 1983.

Following a year of Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics, she pursued a residency in Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania. There, she witnessed first-hand the groundbreaking finding of Vitamin A drugs reversing signs of photoaging under the famous Albert Kligman, MD. She then returned to Columbia University where she did clinical and basic research studies on photobiology, and Vitamin A and Vitamin D in the skin. After joining the Department of Surgery in 1996, she developed her skin cancer surgery focus and applied her background in the healing effects of Vitamins A and D to wounds.

In 2002, Dr. Prystowsky opened her own private dermatologic surgery practice in Manhattan, Janet H. Prystowsky, MD, PC, where she continues to see patients and apply her knowledge to skin cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, photoaging, and wound healing.

In 2008, after 25 years as a practicing dermatologist and researcher in Vitamin A and D metabolism, Janet H. Prystowsky, MD, PhD, President, founded LIVAD Skin Care, LLC, seeing the real need for a skin care company that would combine in-depth knowledge of nutrition, skin metabolism, and photobiology to formulate the best topical products for the skin.
